THE LEAST LIKELY TO SUCCEED

Just Think About It – by Pastor Terry Grimes

The corridors of time and the halls of history are decorated with the names of people who have "made it”. In spite of seemingly impossible odds and in the face of negative expectations of others, they overcame and accomplished what others said they did not have the ability to do.

What awesome potential lies buried under a mountain of discouragement in the lives of so many people. Great ideas! New inventions! Impressive accomplishments! Many of them will never be realized simply because someone was afraid to try. Somebody said the ability wasn’t there. Somebody crushed someone else’s dream. Somebody poured water on someone else’s fire. Somebody smothered the enthusiasm of someone else’s inspiration. There it lies – in ashes. Potential that will never become reality – all because one person did not believe in another. 

Is there a dream in your heart? Do you have an unexpressed desire to do something special and unique with your life? Has someone, or maybe everyone, told you that for one reason or another you will never see your hopes come true? Take heart! Don’t give up! Be encouraged! Don’t let anyone rain on your parade. If you really want to, you can do it. Here’s proof!

 Are you aware that Thomas Edison’s teachers were known to have said that young Mr. Edison was too stupid to learn? It’s a good thing that Mr. Edison saw the true "light” or I would be typing this article in the dim illumination of a candle and you may be reading it accordingly.

Regarding another individual, his teachers called him "mentally slow, unsociable and adrift in his foolish dreams”. He was expelled and refused entrance into the Zurich Polytechnic School. Who was he? Would you believe, Albert Einstein? Poor Albert! Such an under-achiever!

And the list continues – the list of those who were voted "least likely to achieve”. How about you? If a vote was taken on you and me, how would we rate? Has anyone said of us that it is highly unlikely that we will ever amount to much?

That kind of expressed opinion will either be a fire that will consume our future or it will cause a flame of determination to rise up within us and consume such negative predictions about us. We must choose to respond either fulfilling the expectations of other people for us or becoming all that we know we have the potential to be and do.

Walk the corridor of time and examine the halls of history. Listen to what the voices of the past "achievers” have to say to you. Learn to turn a deaf ear to those who lay claim to your life and imprison you in a small box of their opinion. If the "least likely” of the past overcame, so can you! So can I!

God speaks these encouraging words to us today through the prophet, Jeremiah, in Jeremiah 29:11, "I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God has no favorites. He had plans for Jeremiah and He has plans for you and me. Don’t settle for being less than the Lord has for you just because some small thinker doesn’t believe in you. God believes in you! That opens enormous possibilities – when you JUST THINK ABOUT IT!

·          Sandy Boddy – recovering from surgery

·          Anita – healing of cancer (Kathy Hellam’s daughter-in-law)

·          Ernest Lee – pray for healing & removal of cancer

·          Nathaniel – 1 month old –fluid in head and possible blindness (nephew of Cora Berezowski)

·          Mike McCaw – healing for mother’s legs / father’s cancer

·          Bev Walsh – peace of mind/salvation/healing for family members

·          Kidz Fest - August 19. Please pray for this Billy Graham Evangelistic Outreach, to be held at the Armouries, involving 10 of our area churches
